Today marks the 26 th anniversary of the start of the NATO intervention in Kosovo – a decisive international response to the years-long campaign of violence, ethnic cleansing, and repression carried out by Serbian military and police forces against Kosovo’s Albanian civilian population.
The NATO air campaign, launched on March 24, 1999, represented a turning point when the international community took action to halt escalating atrocities, prevent genocide, and protect innocent lives. Faced with undeniable evidence of systematic crimes and mass persecution, this intervention was not just a geopolitical move – it was a moral imperative.
The NATO operation remains a powerful reminder that crimes against Albanian civilians, mass deportations, and acts of terror cannot be tolerated or left unpunished. It demonstrated that when all diplomatic avenues are exhausted, the duty to protect human life must prevail.
Today, as we commemorate the beginning of this historic operation, we honor the memory of all innocent victims and reaffirm our unwavering commitment to peace, justice, and lasting stability in Kosovo. This anniversary is not only a reflection on the past but also a call to continue building a society founded on democracy, human rights, and European values.
